How custom sending domain works

How does splitforms handle Custom Sending Domain?

By default splitforms sends notification emails and auto-replies through its own mail infrastructure. A custom sending domain switches that to your own SMTP server, so the emails come from your address and go through the provider you already trust — Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Amazon SES, Mailgun, Postmark, or your host's mail server. Route the same submission to an email inbox or a webhook at the same time — nothing here is one-or-the-other.

  • Notifications and auto-replies sent from your own address
  • Works with any SMTP provider — Workspace, Microsoft 365, SES, Mailgun, Postmark
  • Your SPF and DKIM records vouch for the mail

How SplitForms works

What happens after someone submits your form?

splitforms receives the submission, filters spam, saves it to your dashboard and emails you — then, on paid plans, sends it on to your webhooks and integrations. No backend infrastructure to build.

View all FAQs
How do I send form emails from my own domain?

Open Dashboard → Account → Sending domain (SMTP), enter your provider's SMTP host, port, username, password, and the from address, and click 'Send test email'. After that, notification emails and auto-replies for every form are sent through your server from your address.

Which SMTP providers work?

Any standard SMTP server: Google Workspace (with an app password), Microsoft 365, Amazon SES, Mailgun, Postmark, SendGrid, or your web host's mail server. Use port 587 with STARTTLS or 465 with SSL.

Which plan includes a custom sending domain?

It's included on the paid plans: Pro ($5/month) or Annual ($49/year). Without it, notification emails are still sent free on every plan through splitforms' own mail infrastructure.

Is my SMTP password stored safely?

It's encrypted at rest and only decrypted on the server when an email is sent. It is never shown again in the dashboard — to change it, enter a new one.

Will this improve deliverability?

It often helps, because mail comes from your own domain and your provider's reputation, with your SPF and DKIM records in place. Inbox placement still depends on the recipient's provider and can't be guaranteed.
