Short answer
Freedback is a hosted form builder: you build a form, paste the generated HTML on your site, and get submissions by email. Its Free plan allows 1 form with an ad shown after submission; Professional is $19/month for 10 forms. If you want a plain form endpoint instead, compare Formspree, Web3Forms, Basin, Forminit, FormSubmit and splitforms.

Disclosure: splitforms publishes this comparison and is one of the alternatives in it. Freedback's facts below were read from freedback.com on October 18, 2026; other vendors' prices were read from their own pricing pages on the dates in the sources table. There is no overall ranking: alternatives are listed alphabetically and each pick names the use case it wins.

What is Freedback?

Freedback (freedback.com) is a hosted online form builder aimed at people who want a working HTML form on their website without writing code. Its home page promises a form on your site in about 8 minutes: create the form in the web builder, copy the HTML it generates, and paste it into your page. Each submission is emailed to you, and a copy is stored in your Freedback account where you can review it after logging in (Freedback FAQ).

Its About page says the service "has been around since 1998" (About), and the footer reads "Freedback / Response-o-Matic". The pages we read do not explain how the two names relate, so we don't either.

That makes Freedback closer to a form builder than to an API-style form backend: you design fields in its builder rather than writing your own markup and pointing the action at an endpoint. Which one you want depends on whether you would rather click or code. For a fuller explanation of the endpoint model, see our guide to the best free form backend services.

How do Freedback alternatives compare?

Freedback is the baseline row; the alternatives follow alphabetically. Free tiers are monthly unless marked otherwise, and Freedback's Free plan is capped by forms (1) rather than by submissions.

splitforms is a competitor; prices were checked on each vendor's public pricing page on September 27, 2026 to October 10, 2026 (date per row). Archive dates come from web.archive.org snapshots: a “Seen” change happened between the linked snapshot and the one before it.

Which Freedback alternatives changed their pricing recently?

  • · Basin: Paid plans were renamed and repriced (billed yearly): the 250-submission plan went from $5.83 to $12.50 a month (Basic to Starter), the 1,000-submission plan with webhooks from $12.50 to $24.17 (Standard to Growth), and the 5,000-submission plan from $36.67 to $40.83 (Premium to Pro). Free stayed at 50 submissions a month on 1 form. First seen in the May 16, 2026 archived snapshot; the previous snapshot still showed the old terms.
  • · FormSubmit: The combined attachment limit per submission rose from 5 MB to 10 MB. First seen in the February 21, 2026 archived snapshot; the previous snapshot still showed the old terms.
  • · Web3Forms: The Pro allowance is shown as 10,000 submissions a month (20,000 in the previous snapshot), and the $49/year plan changed from a public purchase to an application for students, startups and nonprofits. First seen in the January 4, 2026 archived snapshot; the previous snapshot still showed the old terms.

Why do people look for Freedback alternatives?

Freedback does what it says for a simple brochure-site form, and it has been running a long time. The comparisons usually start from one of these points, all taken from its own pages:

  • One form and an ad on Free. The Free plan covers 1 form and shows an ad after the form is submitted; removing it means Professional at $19/month.
  • Pricing by form count, not volume. Plans step up by number of forms (1, 10, 50, unlimited). A site with a few forms and light traffic pays $19/month, while endpoint-style backends such as Formspree, Web3Forms and splitforms price by monthly submissions.
  • Retention windows. Submissions are kept for 6 months and file attachments for 1 month, so long-term records need regular exports.
  • No developer integrations listed. The pricing page lists email and SMS notifications but not webhooks or an API. If you want submissions pushed to Slack, a CRM or your own server, check first.

Basin: spam controls and uploads on Free

Basin (usebasin.com) is a no-code-friendly form backend. Free is 50 submissions a month on 1 form, with 30-day retention and 100 MB of file uploads. Its spam toolkit covers reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha, Cloudflare Turnstile, domain restriction and a custom honeypot. Starter is $12.50/month billed yearly for 250 submissions, and Growth, the first plan with webhooks, is $24.17/month for 1,000. Current tiers are on our Basin pricing page.

Forminit (formerly Getform): uploads on every plan

Getform rebranded to Forminit in January 2026. Free is 100 submissions a month on 1 form with 100 MB of file storage, and Pro is $15.83/month billed yearly for 5,000 submissions a month. It publishes setup guides for React, Next.js, Nuxt, Astro, WordPress and Webflow. The trade-off is the single form on Free.

Formspree: the established endpoint

Formspree popularized pointing an HTML form's action at a hosted URL. Free covers 50 submissions a month with 30 days of history, and Personal is $15/month ($10 billed yearly) for 200 a month. See our Formspree pricing page for every tier, or Formspree alternatives if you are weighing it too.

FormSubmit: free email forwarding with no signup

FormSubmit has no account and no API key. Set your form's action to https://formsubmit.co/[email protected], confirm the first submission from the activation email, and later submissions land in your inbox. It is free and unlimited with no paid plans. What you trade away is everything beyond email: no dashboard, a 30-day archive, and attachments emailed (10 MB total per submission) but not stored. More in our FormSubmit alternative guide.

splitforms: a plain endpoint, 500 free submissions

splitforms (the publisher of this page) is an HTML-form endpoint: an action URL plus one hidden access_key field, so it works on any host. Free includes 500 submissions total, one-time, with no card and no expiry. Email notifications are free on every plan, and smart spam filtering is built in. Pro is $5/month for 5,000 submissions a month with webhooks and file uploads (up to 5 files of 5 MB each per submission); Annual is $49/year for 15,000 a month. A hosted MCP server with OAuth for ChatGPT and Claude connectors is included.

The trade-offs: splitforms is endpoint-first rather than builder-first, so you write or generate the HTML yourself, and it has no EU data residency. The whole integration:

<form action="https://splitforms.com/api/submit" method="POST">
  <input type="hidden" name="access_key" value="YOUR_ACCESS_KEY" />
  <input type="text"  name="name"    required />
  <input type="email" name="email"   required />
  <textarea           name="message" required></textarea>
  <button type="submit">Send</button>
</form>

Get a free access key at splitforms.com/login, no credit card needed. More context: best form backend.

Web3Forms: the largest metered monthly free tier

Web3Forms is an access-key endpoint that suits static sites and landing pages. Free covers 250 submissions a month, unlimited forms and domains, hCaptcha spam protection, and 30 days of history. Pro is $149/year (about $12/month billed yearly) for 10,000 submissions a month, about $1.24 per 1,000. Webhooks need a paid plan. Side-by-side: Formspree vs Web3Forms.

When is splitforms not the right choice?

  • You want a visual form builder as the main product. Freedback is built around generating the form for you; splitforms is endpoint-first and expects you to supply the HTML.
  • You need SMS notifications. Freedback lists them on paid plans; splitforms sends email.
  • You need EU data residency. splitforms hosts data in the US under Standard Contractual Clauses (see the DPA).
  • You want a free allowance that resets monthly. splitforms Free is 500 once; Web3Forms gives 250 every month.
  • You need file uploads on a free plan. splitforms uploads are paid; Basin includes 100 MB on Free.

How do you move a form off Freedback?

  1. Export your submissions from your Freedback account first. Its FAQ says submissions are kept for 6 months and paid plans can export Excel or CSV.
  2. Open the page where you pasted the Freedback form. Its FAQ mentions hidden account and form ID fields in the generated code; those belong to Freedback and are not needed by another backend.
  3. Replace the form with a plain <form> whose action is your new backend's URL. For splitforms that is https://splitforms.com/api/submit plus a hidden access_key input.
  4. Send one real test submission, confirm it arrives, then cancel or downgrade Freedback.

FAQ

What is Freedback?

Freedback is a hosted online form builder. You create a form in its web builder, copy the HTML it generates onto your own website, and each submission is emailed to you and stored in your Freedback account. Its site says the service has been around since 1998, and its footer credits "Freedback / Response-o-Matic".

Is Freedback free?

Freedback has a Free plan with 1 form, unlimited questions per form, unlimited submissions, spam filtering and submission notification emails. An ad is shown after a form is submitted. Removing the ad, plus Excel export, auto-responders, SMS notifications and file uploads, needs the Professional plan at $19/month.

How much does Freedback cost?

Freedback's published plans are Professional at $19/month (10 forms), Business at $39/month (50 forms) and Enterprise at $99/month (unlimited forms), all in USD. Prepaying for 6 months, 1 year or 2 years lowers the price; Professional is $99, $159 or $279 for those periods. Confirm on Freedback's pricing page before you buy.

Does Freedback limit how many submissions you can get?

Its pricing page says unlimited questions per form and unlimited submissions per form on every plan. The limit that matters is retention: its FAQ says submissions are stored for 6 months and file attachments for 1 month, so export anything you need to keep.

Does Freedback support webhooks or an API?

Freedback's pricing and features page does not list webhooks or an API; its listed notifications are email and, on paid plans, SMS. If you need to send submissions to Slack, Zapier or your own server, check with Freedback first or pick a form backend with webhooks, such as Formspree, Basin, Forminit or splitforms.

Is this comparison biased toward splitforms?

splitforms publishes this page and is one of the alternatives in it, so read it as a vendor-written comparison. To keep it checkable, there is no overall ranking: alternatives are listed alphabetically, each pick names the use case it wins, every Freedback fact links to the Freedback page it came from, and a section lists when splitforms is not the right choice.

What is the cheapest Freedback alternative?

Free: FormSubmit (unlimited, email only, no account) and Web3Forms (250 a month). Paid: Web3Forms Pro is $149/year (about $12/month billed yearly) for 10,000 submissions a month, and splitforms Pro is $5/month for 5,000 (Annual $49/year for 15,000 a month). Freedback's own entry paid plan is $19/month for 10 forms.

Which Freedback alternative works without creating an account?

FormSubmit: put your email address in the form's action URL and confirm the first submission by email. The trade-off is no dashboard and a 30-day archive readable through its API.

How do I move a form off Freedback?

Export your submissions first, because Freedback keeps them for 6 months and its FAQ says paid plans can export Excel or CSV. Then replace the Freedback form code with a plain HTML form whose action is your new backend's URL, remove Freedback's hidden account and form ID fields, and send one real test submission before you cancel.

Which Freedback alternatives work with AI agents (MCP)?

splitforms includes a hosted MCP server on every plan, with OAuth sign-in for ChatGPT and Claude connectors, so an assistant can create forms and read submissions. Check each other vendor's docs for current MCP support.
